Orphanage

Irie goes for a large approach of the AIDS problems. According to official estimates, there were living 13 million AIDS orphans in Africa,  of which about a quarter million in Cameroon. These children usually grow by there selves or were adopted by family. These families often live in severe poverty itself and have problems to get an extra mouth filled. In short, these children are left on their own, leading to malnutrition, neglected, abused, raped,…. To help  this vulnerable group Irie wants to built an orphanage of 30 children.

objectives:
1. Shelter: The aim is to create a place where children can receive a home where they are respected and taken care of.
2. Training and development: As the children grow up in a safe environment with other ones, they can develop socialy and have a greater self-worth and identity.
3. Sustainable development: Children who grow up in a safe environment can fully develop their dreams and goals. These can benefit for future generations.
4. Justice: Irie will fight for more justice in the world, where children are seen as key players for the future of a society.

The orphanage will be have a dormitory for 30 beds, a bathroom and a laundry room.

Shelter for teenage mothers

A further initiative is a home for twenty teenage mothers. This will be a safe environment for teenage mothers who were chased by their families. They are excluded from the community. Consequences of this are a lack of income ( prostitution is often a solution), a lack of health care before, during and after childbirth. Often they get into a vicious circle of global poverty with no future for themselves or their children.

Discrimination and subordination of women is prevented. Attention should be paid to the reproductive and sexual rights of women. By building a shelter for young mothers, they get a place where they can stay, find shelter, ask counsel, … They can be helped medically and in general be assisted before, during and after childbirth.

Further medical care such as help with childbirth and AIDS care can be provided in the hospital already in function ( realized by Irie in 2012).

A  dormitory for twenty teenage mothers and a washroom will be built. The refectory, the kitchen, the playground and the well will be shared with the school and the orphanage.
